It’s that simple!
One of the best foods to add to our diets is Bone Broth! Now in thinking about this I asked myself what is the difference between broth and stock? According to Medical News Today, June 14, 2019 Stock is made from the bones of an animal. It is more viscous due to the collagen that seeps out of the joints and bones during long term cooking, 4-6 hours.
Broth is thinner and made from meat and the meat stripped off of the bones, cooked for 45 minutes to 2 hours.
Bone Broth is a hybrid of both made from the bones and from the meat off of the bones with cooking up to 24 hours. And just to be confusing most products on the shelf in the grocery store will use these words interchangeably.
So back to the importance of Bone Broth....
Full of vitamins and minerals including vitamin A and K, Calcium and Magnesium, amino acids (proteins), iron, fatty acids, selenium, zinc and manganese.
Heals the Gut due to the amino acid, glutamine. It helps to break down ones food and help your body absorb the nutrients from the food.
Sleep – the amino acid, glycine aids in ones quality of sleep!
Weight loss – the high protein makes one feel fuller longer, more satisfied decreasing calorie intake.
Joint Health – bone stock has collagen which is protective and can be restorative to joint structures.
Reduces inflammation due to the amino acids in the stock.
Here is a quick an easy way to make bone stock at home -
Recipe
Take a roaster chicken, remove as much of the meat as you wish. You can save the meat for a soup or even a stir fry recipe. I also will eat the chicken with an avocado as my lunch.
Place the bones of the chicken in a pot large enough to handle the bones and cover with water 2 inches above the bones, or a slow cooker.
Add 1 Tbsp of apple cider vinegar to help pull from the bone marrow to increase your nutrients.
Boil in the pot or in a slow cooker (on low) for 4-6 hours. Once the pot is up to a heavy boil lower your temperature to low to medium for the remainder of the 4-6 hours.
You now have bone stock! You can add veggies, spices for more flavor or drink it as it is!
Here’s to improving our health one step at a time!!
Slow cook the above for up to 24 hours and you have bone broth!
